The Office of the Senior Practitioner has a focus on the provision of best practice services for people with complex needs and challenging behaviour, people with mental health issues, and people in, or at risk of, contact with the criminal justice system. 8 Office of the Senior Practitioner (OSP) Consists of: The Community Justice Program Integrated Services Project The State Wide Behaviour Intervention Service Policy and Practice Team The Behaviour Support Unit The Planning and Priority Projects Unit The Practice Leader Unit 9 The Community Justice Program - Case Work and Clinical Services (CJP) Funded under the DADHC Stronger Together Plan for the provision of accommodation and support services to people with an intellectual disability who are exiting custody. Program targeted to grow to 200 clients from 2006 – 2011. Targets individuals who are identified as requiring specialist support on re-entering the community in order to reduce the risk of harm to themselves or to others. A range of accommodation options are currently being developed under this program, ranging from intensive residential services to drop-in support. Specialist assessment, case work support and clinical services are also provided. 10 CJP Entry Criteria Clients must be eligible for DADHC services Ongoing contact with the criminal justice system, resulting in time spent in custody Continuing risk of re-offending Outside DADHC Regional response Contact Intake Officer: 9841 9214 11 The Integrated Service Project (ISP) A joint initiative between ADHC, NSW Health and NSW Housing It aims to: Establish ongoing coordinated cross-agency responses Improve housing stability, behaviour and social connectedness Improve local supports Reduce the cost and impact of challenging behaviour Contribute to the evidence base Achieved through the direct and immediate provision of time limited housing and support, as required, while working in partnership with each individual and their support networks to understand, plan and establish a more sustainable range of support from across their community and the specialist services system. 12 Target Group Adults with high risk challenging behaviour One or more diagnoses or disabilities Blocking an acute mental health unit or respite service, homeless, or in gaol Significant barriers to accessing essential services Not receiving the required level of ongoing coordinated multi- agency support Local support options exhausted Eligibility is NOT dependent on diagnosis 13 Nomination Criteria Nominations are called for approximately three monthly (contingent on capacity) The following NSW Departments are eligible to nominate: Human Services Community Services, Housing NSW, Juvenile Justice, ADHC Corrective Services, Justice and Attorney Generals NSW Trustee and Guardian NSW Health Contact Project Liaison Officer: 9841 9241 14 Statewide Behaviour Intervention Service (SBIS) A tertiary service Provides research, training and clinical consultation to Service Providers already engaged in provision of behaviour support The support networks involved may include group homes. Families, respite agencies, and government or non-government services. Focus on building the knowledge base and practical skills of local carers and Behaviour Support Practitioners.
